Reducing environmental impact
The creation of sustainable communities is fast-becoming an integral part of the developer's remit. Similarly, Encore is committed to delivering a management strategy designed to actively reduce the environmental impact of the developments that we manage by embracing new technology. Here are just a few examples of how we work:
- Movement sensors on landings have significantly reduced the amount of time the lights are on, curbing energy usage and saving electricity. In turn, reduced expenditure on energy bills has enabled the schemes to quickly pay for themselves
- Timers on landings at various developments have helped to reduce energy consumption in equal measure
- Encore has implemented extra on-site recycling centres to further decrease unnecessary waste disposal
- We shred all waste paper at our head office - everything is recycled
- We have planted oak trees at some of our sites, as well as given away saplings to our clients, encouraging them to do their bit for the environment too
- Encore recycles tree cuttings and turns the bark into mulch. This is then used to help the flower beds retain water and stay tidy. It also enables us to keep weeds at bay.
Encore's general manager Gordon Ferguson adds: "By working hand in hand with developers, we can help to make sites more sustainable from the outset. We are also well placed to assist in making homes 'smarter' and 'more intelligent', which can in turn help reduce energy consumption and its associated costs.
"From our lessees' perspective, we are constantly looking at ways to achieve best value for money, alongside implementing environmentally friendly intiatives. It has been well  documented in the press lately that utility costs are rising, and we hope that these measures go some way to demonstrating our proactive approach towards cost-effective management, as well as our commitment to ensuring sites are 'greener'."
