We are delighted to announce that Encore's charity partner for the 2018 Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge, "Heads Together and Row", have successfully completed their epic challenge after 50 days at sea!
The four-person crew of Alison, Jeremy, Justin and Toby - who were raising much needed funds for Mind, Combat Stress and the Marine Conservation Society - crossed the finish line in the early hours of Friday 1 February having set off from Tenerife on 12 December 2018 to cover the 3,000 miles to Antigua.
The team rowed in pairs in two hour shifts around the clock and faced blisters, saltwater sores, seasickness and a Christmas away from their family and friends to raise awareness of their chosen charities and to take part in a research project for Henley Business School.
The annual Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge was founded in 2012 and is recognised as the premier event in ocean rowing, regularly attracting up to 30 teams from around the world. Dubbed "The World's Toughest Row", participants burn in excess of 5,000 calories per day and can lose up to 12kg in weight during their journey acros the ocean. Not for the faint-hearted, more people have climbed Everest than have rowed an ocean.
There are 28 crews taking part in this year's challenge including five solo rowers and at the time of writing some are still rowing - the last boat is expected to cross the line around 22 February.
