• Encore Estates raises money for good causes

Staff across the Encore Group chose to support local charities this summer by taking on other businesses in their area at a number of dragon boat festivals.

Our Nottingham team came a very respectable 17th in their race against 44 other teams to raise much-needed funds for the Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People – the East Midlands’ only hospice for young people. Rainbows is currently providing specialist nursing care to over 360 families whose children have been diagnosed with life-limiting conditions. The Festival took place at Victoria Embankment on the River Trent on 6 August 2017.

Meanwhile, our Berkshire team entered a team for the Reading Dragon Boat Festival on the River Thames. Starting at the Wokingham Waterside Centre, the event took place on 20 August. Organised by The Lions Club of Reading supported by JackFM, Encore staff raised more than £300 for their chosen charity: the Thames Valley Air Ambulance. They managed to avoid the boat that sank and were one of the only teams ibnt he competition to improve their finish times in every heat. They even featured in the opening sequence of ITV News coverage of the event.

Ten crew members and a drummer manned each boat whilst spectators cheering them on enjoyed a variety of bankside entertainment such as live music, fairground rides and Chinese lion dancing.

Director Neil Robinson said: “As a business, we are proud to be in a position to give something back to our local communities – and if we can foster some team spirit among our staff as a result then all the better. Whilst our employees are having fun they will be raising money for three very worthwhile causes, and this is something Encore is keen to support.”
